A third male suspect fled the scene and has not been apprehended.

Senior Police Officer D. Griffith, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. He is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in May 1991.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants B. Harris and R. Rohling reported:

Two HPD officers were flagged down in the 4500 block of Bricker and, as they were receiving information, quickly realized they were witnessing a home invasion in-progress at a residence. The officers saw women jumping out of windows of the residence at 4537 Bricker and heard shots fired inside the house. The suspects were seen jumping out a side window and then fleeing on foot.

When Officer Griffith pursued the males on foot, suspect Alford turned and fired a shot toward the officer. Officer Griffith, who was not struck, then returned fire. No one was hit. Suspects Alford and Taylor were captured a short time later hiding in an abandoned house.

No one inside the home on Bricker was injured, but victims reported money was stolen from them.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
