July 25, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 11300 block of the Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 2:25 a.m. on Sunday (July 24).

The male victim, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer D. Ashford reported:

Witnesses reported seeing the victim driving a silver Chevrolet Trailblazer erratically northbound on the Gulf Freeway service road.  He was observed to be traveling at a high rate of speed, tailgating other motorists, and weaving in and out of traffic.  The driver lost control of the Chevrolet in the 11300 block of the service road and slid onto a sidewalk and struck a utility pole.  The driver died at the scene.  A female passenger, 33, was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital in stable condition.
