February 7, 2011 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man and wounding of another at 1317 Winter Street about 2:30 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 5).

The deceased victim, Samuel Mireles, 29, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male, Israel Herrera, 29, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and Senior Police Officer M. Stahlin reported:

A male suspect, known to Mr. Mireles and Mr. Herrera, was allowed into the residence at the above location. At some point, the suspect pulled a pistol, demanded money and then began shooting. Mireles and Herrera were both struck. The suspect immediately fled the scene.
