February 4, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 12600 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) about 6:55 a.m. today.

The male victim, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Chambers and Officer G. Michon reported:

The victim was driving a red Nissan 300ZX westbound on the East Freeway when he got into an accident after losing control of the vehicle due to ice on the overpass. The driver then exited the Nissan and sat on the overpass guardrail. The driver of a dark-colored pickup truck lost control of the vehicle on the ice and struck a blue Chevrolet pickup truck, which then struck the Nissan, causing it to pin the victim between the Nissan and the guardrail, killing him. The driver of the first pickup truck fled the scene. The driver of the second pickup truck stopped at the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
