August 15, 2011 - Houston police are investigating a fatal accident at 1600 North Beltway 8 about 2:50 a.m. today (Aug. 15).
The female victim, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Senior Police Officer J. Gaona reported:
The victim was involved in a single car accident and parked her vehicle eastbound on the left shoulder of the North Beltway. Witnesses reported seeing the woman then attempt to cross the road to the right shoulder when she was struck by a white Dodge Intrepid and a red Freightliner 18-wheeler. The driver of the Dodge then fled the scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler immediately pulled onto the right shoulder and called 911. The woman is believed to have been struck by additional vehicles before emergency responders could arrive.
There are no charges in this case.
The investigation is continuing.
