Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 13500 Gulf Freeway

A man critically injured in a traffic accident in the 13500 block of the Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) at 12:25 a.m. on Sept. 4 has died from his injuries.
The victim, Ricardo Plasencia, 52, suffered head injuries and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. He was pronounced dead on Saturday (Sept. 11).
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Calley and Officer N. Rosenblatt reported:
Plasencia was driving a green Jeep Wrangler in the 13500 block of the Gulf Freeway when he failed to maintain a single lane of traffic and struck a signal light and freeway pillar.
Blood test results determined Plasencia was under the influence of alcohol. No other vehicles or persons were involved in this accident.
The investigation is continuing.
