Fatal Traffic Accident at 2300 South Highway 6

May 19, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 2300 block of State Highway 6 South about 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday (May 18).

The male victim, 54, a pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Arnold and Officer S. Johnson reported:

According to witnesses, the victim was standing on the eastside shoulder of Highway 6 near a business parking lot entrance. He then walked into the road and was almost struck by a Jeep traveling northbound in the middle lane. The victim made it past the Jeep and then walked in front of a green Toyota Camry. The driver of the Camry did not see the victim and struck him. The driver of the Camry then stopped just north of the intersection at Piping Rock, called 9-1-1 and began CPR on the victim. HFD emergency personnel arrived and could not revive the victim.

Further investigation determined the victim was at-fault for failing to yield right of way and not crossing at a crosswalk. The driver of the Camry, who was not injured, was questioned and released at the scene.
