Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 18900 Gulf Freeway
July 27, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident at 18900 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate 45) about 12:30 p.m. on Monday (July 26).
Michael Gregory Petty (w/m, DOB: 11-17-81) is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in the 351st State District Court.
The identities of both male victims are pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer E. Rubio reported:
Petty was seen driving a black Toyota Tacoma at a high rate of speed and dodging in and out of traffic. Petty’s vehicle struck the back left area of a gold Toyota Tacoma causing that vehicle’s driver to lose control and roll the gold pickup several times before landing in the grassy area to the right of the roadway shoulder.
The front passenger, 67, of the gold Toyota was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was transported by ambulance to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The driver, 55, of the gold pickup was wearing a seatbelt but suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
