Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Traffic Accident at 6800 Southwest Freeway
July 19, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in a fatal traffic accident at 6800 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 3:25 p.m. on Saturday (July 17).
The suspect, Raul Eulises Velasquez (H/m, DOB: 9-12-83), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 179th State District Court. Velasquez, of 7500 Bellerive Drive, is not in custody at this time. A photo of Velasquez is attached to this news release.
One victim, Rolando Olvera, 4, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer C. Tosso reported:
Velasquez was driving a green Honda Accord southbound on the Southwest Freeway service road at a high rate of speed and dodging in and out of traffic. He lost control of the vehicle and hit a pole. Velasquez immediately fled on foot. There were five passengers in his vehicle. One of them, Rolando Olvera, was pronounced dead at the scene. A three-year-old boy was transported to Texas Children's Hospital and a 28-year-old male was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. Two other adult passengers, a 23-year-old female and 21-year-old male, were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of injuries.
