Fatal Traffic Accident at 6800 Southwest Freeway
July 19, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 6800 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 3:25 p.m. on Saturday (July 17).
A male child, 4, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Morgan and Officer C. Tosso reported:
A green Honda Accord was traveling southbound on the Southwest Freeway service road at a high rate of speed and dodging in and out of traffic. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and hit a pole. The driver, described only as a Hispanic male, 25 to 30 years old, immediately fled the scene on foot. There were five passengers in the vehicle. A four-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. A three-year-old boy was transported to Texas Children's Hospital and a 28-year-old male was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. Two other adult passengers, a 23-year-old female and 21-year-old male, were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment of injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
