Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man's Death at 11302 Fondren
August 26, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a man at 11302 Fondren about 9 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 25).
The suspect, Tony Mayfield (b/m, DOB: 2-24-84), is charged with capital murder in the 183rd State District Court.
The identity of the victim, 45, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and cause of his death are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant T. Biggs and Senior Police Officer D. Gunter reported:
Mayfield walked into the Chevron station at the above location and asked an employee (victim) for assistance with a lotto ticket. The victim left from behind the counter and walked with Mayfield to an area inside the store near the restrooms when Mayfield attacked him. Mayfield then killed the victim while in the men's restroom, took an unknown amount of money from the register and fled the scene on foot. He was later taken into custody by HPD Fondren patrol officers a short distance from the location.
