Fatal Traffic Accident at 5800 Van Zandt
August 20, 2010 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 5800 Van Zandt about 11:15 a.m. today.
The male victim suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Chambers and Senior Police Officer G. Weinschreider reported:
While driving eastbound on Van Zandt, the driver (the suspect) of a Ford truck got into an argument with his passenger (the victim). The driver stopped in the 5700 block of Van Zandt and the victim got out of the vehicle and then walked to the driver's side of the vehicle and opened the door. When the victim tried to enter the driver's side of the vehicle, the suspect drove away while the victim held on to the side of the truck. The victim was dragged about a block before he fell.
The suspect fled the scene in the truck but then returned a short time later without the vehicle. The truck was recovered a short time later. Charges of failure to stop and render aid are pending.
