Suspect Arrested in Fatal Traffic Accident at Martin Luther King Boulevard
August 2, 2010 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 5800 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard about 10:25 p.m. on Friday (July 30).
The suspect, William F. Jones (b/m, DOB: 3-2-37), is charged with accident involving injury or death and driving while intoxicated in the 232nd State District Court.
The identity of the female victim, 20, who was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital and later died, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant I. Izaguirre and Officer C. Long reported:
Jones was driving a brown GMC pickup truck southbound on Martin Luther King when he struck a pedestrian (victim) attempting to cross the street in a non-designated crosswalk. Jones continued southbound on Martin Luther King without stopping. Southeast patrol officers who were nearby heard a noise and witnessed the victim being struck. The officers then stopped the GMC further down on Martin Luther King and took Jones into custody.
