Suspect Arrested in Woman's Death at 190 Meyerland Plaza
November 16, 2009 -
Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of one woman and serious injury to another at 190 Meyerland Plaza about 2:55 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 14).
The suspect, George Randel Theobald (w/m, DOB: 9-29-70), is charged with one count of murder and one count of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury in the 185th State District Court. He is accused in the death of Brenda Landrum Romano, 56, of Yoakum, Texas, and seriously injuring Robyn Renee Romano, 33, of Houston. The younger Romano suffered a broken right leg and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for treatment.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Senior Police Officer S. Anderson reported:
The two victims were struck intentionally by a suspect driving a stolen 2006 Range Rover. The incident started as a minor traffic accident in the parking lot of Meyerland Plaza. Upon initial impact, those from both vehicles got out to discuss the accident. The suspect decided to leave the scene before police were called. When the victims attempted to keep the suspect at the scene, he put his vehicle in reverse and accelerated at full throttle, pinning Robyn Romano in between his vehicle and hers. He then ran over Brenda Romano as he backed out and fled. Both women were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where Brenda was pronounced dead.
Shortly after TV news reports on the incident aired at 10 p.m. Saturday, investigators received tips from individuals as to where the suspect's vehicle was abandoned and an identity on a suspect. Charges were filed against the suspect and arrest warrants were obtained. Homicide investigators, accompanied by HPD patrol officers, located suspect Theobald at the Western Inn Motel at 1500 North Loop and apprehended him about 4:30 a.m. on Sunday without incident. Theobald gave investigators a statement, admitting to his role in the incident.
