Fatal Traffic Accident at 3939 Southwest Freeway

November 12, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 3939 Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) service road about 3:30 a.m. today (Nov. 12).

The male victim, Thomas Teal, 56, of Houston, suffered no visible injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Sorge and Officer J. Perrotte reported:

Mr. Teal was driving a maroon Ford Explorer northbound on the Southwest Freeway service road when he suddenly drove off the road at a slow speed, and into the parking lot of a gas station. The Explorer then ran over a sprinkler, struck a lamp positioned near the ground and came to a stop. There was no visible damage to the Ford Explorer.

Further investigation determined Teal suffered a medical condition that possibly caused the accident.

The investigation is continuing.
