Surveillance Video, Photos Released of Insurance Company Robberies
November 9, 2009 - Investigators in the Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying suspects in the robberies of at least 29 businesses throughout Houston.
The suspects exclusively target Hispanic owned insurance companies and enter the businesses posing as customers. After asking a few questions, the suspects then produce handguns and order the victims away from their desks, often either tying them up or making the victims hide in another room. The suspects then steal cash from the business before fleeing. Fortunately, no one has been injured in these robberies.
Surveillance photos of some of the suspects are attached to this release.
The suspects are believed to be part of a group of robbers and typically operate in groups of two or three. All are described only as Hispanic males who often wear ballcaps, but otherwise make no attempts to hide their identities. Several speak Spanish with a Central American accent. They most often rob the insurance companies on Saturday or Monday between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., but have also struck any time the businesses are open.
Anyone with information about these suspects is urged to call the HPD Robbery Division at 713-308-0700 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
