Fatal Traffic Accident at 700 U.S. 59 South

March 18, 2009 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 700 block of the Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) about 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday (March 17).

The male victim, 40, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. S. Runyan and Officer A. Alaniz reported:

According to witnesses, the victim was traveling northbound in a gray Toyota Corolla on the Southwest Freeway, when he took the left hand exit for Spur 529.  He then appeared to change his mind and tried to continue north on the Southwest Freeway.  The victim then over steered and struck the right retaining wall.

The investigation is continuing.
