On March 11, Vaughn and a male friend were in the common kitchen area of an apartment/rooming house building at 2417 Pannell.  As Vaughn cooked at the gas stove with his friend nearby, suspect White appeared at the door of the kitchen and threw a flammable liquid on Vaughn.  White fled but then returned to the location while investigators were at the scene.  Vaughn was severely burned and his friend also suffered burns to his arm.  He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital for his injuries.  According to Vaughn’s friend, Vaughn and White had an argument earlier in the day over food stamps.  White was taken into custody at the scene.
