Suspect Sought/Charged in Fatal Shooting at 617 Woolworth June 22, 2009 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting of two men, one fatally, at 617 Woolworth about 8:45 p.m. on Thursday (June 18). The suspect, Francisco Odilon Lopez (H/m, DOB: 4-29-64), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 232nd State District Court. Lopez is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 185 pounds and has brown hair and eyes. A photo of Lopez is attached to this news release. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W.L. Meeler, Senior Police Officers S.J. Anderson and L.K. Lovelace and Officer R.T. Figeroa reported: Lopez was at the home of Abelardo Villarreal, 37, when an argument ensued and Lopez pulled a semi automatic pistol and began shooting. Mr. Villarreal was struck several times, killing him. His brother, Carlos Villarreal, was also struck several times and taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. Lopez fled in a white van. Sunday night (June 21), officers with the Northeast Patrol Division observed Lopez’s van in the driveway of his residence at 8829 Chatwood. The officers also saw movement in the house and a porch and interior light turn off. Homicide investigators went to the home and attempted to serve a warrant, but received no answer at the door. Units from HPD’s SWAT and Hostage Negotiation Teams were called to the scene but were unable to talk to anyone inside the house. SWAT officers entered the residence shortly after 6 a.m. today (June 22) and searched the house, but found no one inside.
