Fatal Shooting at 6700 Canal

July 15, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in the 6700 block of Canal about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday (July 14). 

The victim, Javier Soto, 34, of Houston, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. M. Cegielski and Officer J. T. Barringer reported: 

Mr. Soto was standing in the street in front of his residence talking to a friend who was sitting in a vehicle.  An unknown male suspect approached from behind, shot Soto several times, and then fled on foot. 

The suspect is described only as a Hispanic male, about 25 years of age, and about 5 feet 7 inches tall.
