Investigation into Male's Death at 11800 North Freeway July 6, 2009 - Houston police are investigating the death of a male suspect following a vehicle pursuit with an on-duty Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable about 9:40 a.m. on Sunday (July 5). The suspect suffered blunt trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. T. Wyers and Senior Police Officer R. P. Martinez reported: A Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable conducted a traffic stop in the 200 block of Beltway 8 West after he saw the suspect commit traffic violations and drive in an unsafe manner. The suspect, who was acting hysterical at the time, did not identify himself to the deputy, ignored verbal commands and then fled the scene in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. The deputy constable pursued the suspect in a marked patrol vehicle with his emergency equipment (lights and siren) activated. The suspect then wrecked his vehicle on the southbound entrance ramp of the North Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 North). The deputy constable approached the suspect in his patrol vehicle and before the deputy could exit his vehicle, the suspect jumped off the overpass to his death. This case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, along with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office. VHS/JFC
