Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 9001 South Braeswood January 22, 2008 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9001 South Braeswood about 4:55 p.m. on January 15. The suspect, Carl Gene Simmons (b/m, DOB: 4-24-89), is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Roderick Jackson, 31, of Houston. Mr. Jackson suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second suspect, described only as a black male between 18 and 24 years of age and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, remains at large. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Bush and Senior Police Officers J. Coffelt, C.T. Hufstedler and A. J. Palos reported: Patrol officers responded to a shooting call at 9001 South Braeswood after witnesses reported hearing several gunshots coming from the apartment complex parking lot. Mr. Jackson was found deceased in the parking lot. The suspects, described only as two black males between 18 and 24 years of age, fled the scene on foot. One was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt (Simmons) and the other a black hooded sweatshirt. Further investigation identified Simmons as the shooter in this case and on Tuesday (Jan. 21) he was arrested at 9001 South Braeswood without incident.
