Fatal Traffic Accident at 18000 Gulf Freeway

February 19, 2008 - A motorist involved in a traffic accident in the 18000 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 2 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 16) has died from her injuries. 

The female victim, Marilyn K. Shumate was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.  Doctors pronounced her dead on Wednesday (Feb. 18). 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. L. Gaines and Officer A. Deleon reported: 

Ms. Shumate was traveling northbound in the 18000 block of the Gulf Freeway in a red Chrysler Sebring when she lost control of the vehicle, struck the guardrail, and flipped the vehicle.  Shumate was then transported to the hospital.  No other vehicles were involved in this incident.   

The investigation is continuing.
