Fatal Traffic Accident at 7200 Gulf Freeway

February 12, 2008 - Charges are pending against a juvenile suspect following a fatal traffic accident in the 7200 block of the Gulf Freeway (Interstate Highway 45 South) about 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 11). 

The male juvenile, 16, has been referred to the Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities under a charge of failure to stop and render aid. 

The male victim, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Sorge and Officer J. Cavillo reported: 

According to witnesses, the suspect was driving a silver Toyota Celica and attempted to exit the Gulf Freeway.  He then struck the rear of a Yamaha motorcycle, operated by the victim, who was also attempting to exit the Gulf Freeway.  The driver of the Toyota did not stop and immediately fled the scene.  He later turned himself in to deputies from the Harris County Precinct Six Constable’s Office. 

The investigation is continuing.
