August 27, 2009 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects wanted in the aggravated assault of an on-duty Houston police officer at 1802 Sgt. Macario Garcia about 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 26).

The suspects are described only as two Hispanic males.  The first is about 40 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs 150 to 170 pounds and has medium length, groomed black hair.  He was wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans.  The second is about 20 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs about 140 to 150 pounds and has brown hair.  A composite sketch of the older suspect is attached to this news release.

Suspect

Officer J. W. Taylor, sworn in as an officer in November 1981, is assigned to the Eastside Patrol Division.  He suffered minor injuries to his hands and legs and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was treated and released.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. T. Parker and Senior Police Officer S. Straughter reported:

Patrol officers responded to a burglary in-progress call at 1801 Sgt. Macario Garcia and Officer Taylor confronted two male suspects exiting the front door of the night club at that location.  Both suspects refused all orders to stop and struggled with Officer Taylor.  The younger suspect fled north on foot while the older suspect continued to struggle with Officer Taylor.  The older suspect was then able to get into a red pickup truck, drove away and dragged Officer Taylor a short distance.  The pickup, which was determined to be stolen, was later recovered in the area of Wallisville Road and Hoffman Street.

Anyone with information on this case or on the identities of the wanted suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
