Officer Discharges Weapon at 1900 Southwest Freeway August 10, 2009 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an HPD officer discharged his weapon at one of two males during an incident at 1900 Southwest Freeway (Highway 59 South) about 2:15 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 7). The officer who discharged his weapon, Officer Eric Tewes, of the Southeast Patrol Division, was not injured. He was sworn in as an officer in April 2007. Neither the male nor Officer Tewes was injured. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales and Officer J. Sosa reported: Plain clothes officers assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division were conducting an undercover investigation in an attempt to execute a felony warrant. The officers saw a vehicle with two males inside, one of them fitting the description of a wanted suspect. The plain clothes officers requested the assistance of uniformed officers also assigned to Southeast Patrol. The uniformed officers responded and executed a felony traffic stop. The driver of the suspect vehicle complied with the officers’ commands and got out of the vehicle. The passenger did not comply with the same commands and was seen making an overt movement. At that time, one of the uniformed officers discharged his duty weapon in the direction of that male and missed him. The two individuals were questioned and then released without charges at this time. As is customary when an officer discharges a weapon in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
