Suspects Arrested in Assault on Deputy at 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway April 6, 2009 - Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested for running over an on-duty Harris County Sheriff’s deputy, which resulted in the wounding of one of the suspects at 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway about 11 a.m. on Monday (April 6). One suspect, Jordan Thomas Ayers (b/m, DOB: 8-11-83), is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant in the 176th State District Court. Ayers suffered a gunshot wound to the face and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition. Another suspect, Jerry Edward Ramirez (H/m, DOB: 2-7-81), is charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and evading detention in Harris County Criminal Court #8. Suspect Ramirez was not injured. The sheriff’s deputy who discharged his firearm suffered broken ribs and abrasions and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital. HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. M. De La Cruz and M. W. McStravick reported: HPD patrol officers working with the Harris County Sheriff’s deputy saw suspects Ayers and Ramirez breaking into a vehicle at 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway. Officers and the deputy then surrounded the suspects’ vehicle with their unmarked police vehicles, identified themselves as police officers and attempted to take the suspects into custody. Ayers drove his vehicle towards the deputy, struck him and knocked him on top of the hood. The deputy, fearing for his life, discharged his weapon at Ayers and struck him in the face. Ayers then drove about 50 yards and knocked the deputy to the ground. The suspect fled the scene in the vehicle and was arrested a short time later by a Harris County Precinct 5 Deputy Constable while fleeing on foot. Suspect Ramirez fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short time later. He was identified by witnesses at the scene.
