Suspect Arrested in the Death of a Woman at 514 W. Sunnyside

November 10, 2008 - A suspect was arrested in the death of a woman found at 514 W. Sunnyside about 5:40 a.m. on Sunday (November 9).

The victim, Roberta Ann Alfaro, 44, of Pasadena, suffered a laceration to the forehead and was possibly strangled. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, Fidel Ramirez Herrera, Jr. (H/m, DOB: 2-24-66), was arrested and faces a possible charge of murder.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.H. Roberts and Officer R. Cervantes reported:

Ms. Alfaro and Herrera became involved in disturbance as they drove home from a night out together. After Alfaro pulled over to the side of the road, the disturbance escalated into a physical confrontation.

Investigators believe, at this time, Herrera took his belt and strangled Alfaro to death then drove to a residence next door to his sister’s house and parked the vehicle. Herrera then passed out behind the wheel. HFD paramedics responded to a medical call and found Alfaro deceased inside the vehicle. Herrera awoke and left he scene but was found by responding patrol officers.

Alfaro’s cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
