Robbery Suspect Fatally Shot at 7800 Grove Ridge
May 27, 2008 - The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect at 7800 Grove Ridge Drive about 9 a.m. on Sunday (May 25) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
The suspect, identified as Alquince James Gibbs (b/m, DOB: 5-15-87), of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooter and robbery victim, Juan Ibarra, 51, was not injured.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.H. Roberts and Senior Police Officer R. Cervantes reported:
The victim was cleaning up debris and leftover material from a recently completed roofing job when he was approached by an armed suspect. The suspect forced the victim to go to his (victim’s) truck where he demanded money and the victim’s cell phone. The victim, a concealed handgun license holder, gave the suspect the items and then retrieved his own weapon from his truck. He then fired three shots at the suspect, striking him one time.
