Officer Hurt in Shooting Incident at 1716 Quitman May 2 , 2008 - A Houston police officer was hospitalized after receiving a wound to her leg when two other officers fired shots at a charging dog at 1716 Quitman about 5:35 p.m. on Thursday (May 1). Officer S.A. Wilson was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where she was treated and released for a superficial wound to her left leg. HPD Homicide Division Officers L.K. Lovelace and T.T. Pool reported: HPD Narcotics Division officers were attempting to serve a warrant at a business with the assistance from members of the Central Patrol Division Tactical Team. A large pit bull got loose at the location and tried to attack some of the officers. Two of them, Sergeant S.K. Leatherman and Officer B.T. Wooden, discharged their weapons and fatally struck the dog. One of the fired rounds ricocheted and some of its fragments struck Officer Wilson in her leg. No one else was injured. Sergeant Leatherman was sworn in as an HPD officer in August 1981, Officer Wooden in May 1996 and Officer Wilson in July 1994. |
