Robbery Suspect Wounded by Officer at 800 Dallas June 16, 2008 - Charges are pending against a suspect wounded by a Houston police officer when the suspect charged at the officer after attempting to rob a motorist of his vehicle at 800 Dallas about 7:40 p.m. on Sunday (June 15). The suspect, Victor Daniel Lebron-Vasquez (H/m, DOB: 2-4-80), was wounded one time in the abdomen and transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical, but stable condition. He remains in the surgical intensive care unit, in police custody at the hospital. Felony charges of robbery by threat are pending against suspect Lebron (also known as Lebron-Vasquez). The officer who discharged her weapon, Ha Crawford, was not injured. Officer Crawford, assigned to the Security Detail Unit at HPD Headquarters, was sworn in as an officer in May 2003. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R.D. Chandler and Officer L.K. Lovelace reported: While in the lobby of HPD Headquarters, Officer Crawford heard a male victim, Donald Gay, 46, calling for help from his vehicle just outside HPD Headquarters. Officer Crawford ran outside to assist Mr. Gay and heard him screaming that the suspect was taking his vehicle. Officer Crawford saw the suspect inside the victim’s vehicle and gave numerous verbal commands to show his hands, exit the vehicle and lie down on the ground. The suspect refused to comply with the officer’s commands and then charged at Officer Crawford in an extremely aggressive manner. Fearing the suspect was armed, and for her life, Officer Crawford discharged her duty weapon one time, striking the suspect in the lower abdomen. As is customary in HPD officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
