Suspect Identified, Sought in Fatal Shooting at 6417 Antoine July 16, 2008 - Houston police have charged a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man at 6417 Antoine about 11:15 p. m. on July 11. The suspect, William Joseph Sanders, a.k.a “Pops” (b/m, DOB: 7-25-87), is charged with murder in the 230th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Douglas Bryant Smith Jr., 18, of Houston, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Rubio and Officers X. Avila and C. Sturdivant reported: Mr. Smith got into an argument with several male suspects in the common area of the apartment complex at 6417 Antoine. Sanders shot Smith several times during the argument. Sanders and the other suspects then fled the scene. A follow up investigation, which included re-interviewing several witnesses, resulted in Sanders being identified as the shooter.
