Assault on a Police Officer at 6500 Fondren

July 7, 2008 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which shots were fired at an off-duty police officer at 6500 Fondren about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday (July 6).

The officer, Houston Independent School District Police Officer T.E. Alford, was not injured.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales and Senior Police Officer J. Sosa reported:

Officer Alford was off-duty traveling in the 7600 block of DeMoss accompanied by a friend when he was involved in a minor accident with a suspect vehicle that swerved into his (Alford’s) lane and hit his vehicle. There was no damage to either vehicle and Officer Alford continued on to assist a friend whose car had broken down at 6500 Fondren. The suspects then arrived at the Fondren location and confronted Officer Alford and his friends. Officer Alford then identified himself as a police officer and asked the suspect to leave. The suspect continued to confront the officer, and eventually got into the passenger side of the suspect vehicle. As they (the suspects) drove away, the suspect fired several shots at Officer Alford and his friends. The officer returned fire as the suspect vehicle fled on Fondren then east on Clarewood.

No one at 6500 Fondren was struck and it is unknown if any of the suspects were struck.

The suspect is described only as a black male between 21 and 23 years of age. The suspect vehicle is described as a tan 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.
