Fatal Traffic Accident at 3700 Westpark

July 3, 2008 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident involving a felony evading suspect in the 3700 block of Westpark about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday (July 2).

The deceased suspect, Derek James Allwein (w/m, DOB: 7-26-83), of Katy, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Hospital about 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Officer S.M. Johnson reported:

Derek Allwein was operating a black Yamaha motorcycle and evading Bellaire Police Department officers for about three minutes when he apparently misjudged a turn and struck a curb in the 3700 block of Westpark. His motorcycle went airborne and he was ejected from it.

West University paramedics transported Allwein to the hospital in critical condition.
