Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer at 1350 Greens Parkway December 23, 2008 - Houston police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for aggravated assault of a peace officer at 1350 Greens Parkway about 2:10 a.m. on Monday, December 22. The wanted suspect is a black male, medium build, with a thin mustache. At the time of the incident the suspect was wearing a white Polo shirt and driving a stolen vehicle. Harris County Sheriff’s Office Deputy B. Katrib discharged his duty weapon in this incident and was not injured. HPD Homicide Division Senior Officer B.D. Evans and Officer K. Lopez reported: Deputy Katrib spotted a stolen vehicle on Beltway 8, traveling west approaching the North Freeway. The vehicle exited the beltway and eventually drove into an apartment complex at 1350 Greens Parkway. The deputy followed the vehicle through the complex and into an enclosed portion of the parking lot. The vehicle then pulled into a parking space and stopped. The driver then opened the driver’s door and the deputy then ordered the driver to show his hands. The driver refused, looked around in a suspicious manner and then closed the door. The driver then reversed the vehicle and accelerated to a high rate of speed. The driver then struck two parked vehicles causing severe damage. The driver then accelerated in the direction of the deputy. The deputy attempted to move out of the path of the oncoming vehicle and almost fell to the ground. The deputy then discharged his weapon at the vehicle as the vehicle sped past him. The deputy ran back to his patrol car and attempted to catch up to the vehicle but lost sight of the vehicle believing the driver exited the property onto Greens Parkway. The vehicle was eventually found abandoned on the east side of the apartment complex. As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s office. In addition, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions are also investigating the incident since it involved a sheriff’s deputy. |
