Parking Instructions For HPD Officer's Funeral December 12, 2008 - At 11 a.m. today, funeral services will be held for HPD Officer Timothy Abernethy at the Champion Forest Baptist Church at 15555 Stuebner-Airline Road. Parking will be available for mourners at Champion Forest Baptist and at the Faithbridge United Methodist Church, 18000 Stuebner Airline Road, which is approximately 2.1 miles north of Champion Forest Baptist. Metro bus shuttle service will be provided as transportation from Faithbridge United Methodist. The Houston Police Department is requesting all media to arrive at Champion Forest Baptist between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Officers will direct news media live trucks and vehicles to park in a designated area on the north side of the church. KHOU-TV Channel 11 will operate a pool camera for all media and will make its live truck available for all media outlets to receive video and audio of the service. HPD public information officers will be in the parking lot to assist media with questions and coverage. No cameras or media representatives will be allowed inside the church. Immediately following the funeral, a “Wall of Honor”ceremony will be held outside the front entrance to the church. There will not be a burial service. Officer Abernethy, 43, of the North Patrol Division, was fatally shot in the line of duty during a traffic stop on Sunday (Dec.7). He leaves behind a wife and two children. |
