Incident at 61 Riesner October 28, 2007 - Houston police are investigating the apparent suicide of a male inmate found at 61 Riesner Street about 9:45 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 27). The male, identified as John David Perdue (w/m, DOB: 6-6-61), was pronounced dead at the scene. His cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M.S. Walker and Officer T.J. McCorvey reported: Mr. Perdue was arrested for a drug possession offense at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday. He was transported and booked into the city jail where he was medically screened, fingerprinted and housed in the general prisoner population. At approximately 9:45 a.m., Perdue was discovered to have hanged himself with a ligature. Medical attention was promptly administered, but Perdue could not be revived. As is customary in in-custody death cases, the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office, are investigating this incident.
