Traffic Incident at South Sam Houston Parkway Service Road at Cullen November 13, 2007 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at the intersection of South Sam Houston Parkway service road at Cullen about 2:10 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 12). The victim, Peter Van Rijn, 72, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant J.A. Ogden and Officer J.D. Larson reported: Mr. Van Rijn was driving a white Hyundai north on Cullen approaching the South Sam Houston Parkway service road as a black Ford F350, with a trailer in tow, was west on the north service road. The Hyundai struck the trailer being towed by the Ford, and continued over the left curb of the service road and up the embankment. The trailer separated from the Ford and both vehicles went over the right curb of the service road before coming to a rest. The cause of the accident and the driver responsible for disregarding the red light has not been determined at this time. The investigation is continuing.
