Traffic Incident at 1400 Eastex Freeway

March 27, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 1400 block of the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59 North) about 3:50 p.m. on Monday ( Mar. 26).

The identity of the deceased male pedestrian is being withheld pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s office.

HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant W.R. Cumbess and Officers R. Kessler and Y. Bashir reported:

According to witnesses, the unknown male pedestrian had walked across the main lanes of southbound traffic and was attempting to walk across the northbound lanes of the freeway when he was struck by the driver of a white Mitsubishi. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by HFD paramedics.

The investigation is continuing.
