Incident at 2710 W. Bellfort
March 25, 2007 -- Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 2710 W. Bellfort about 3:25 a.m. on Saturday (Mar. 24).
The victim, Rene Chaney Knox, 26, of 3901 Omeara #150 suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a Katrina evacuee from New Orleans.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.W. Belk and Officer M.J. Miller reported:
Residents reported hearing a series of six gunshots coming from the parking lot of the apartment complex about 3:25 a.m. Several witnesses observed a male suspect walking away from a 1998 4-door Cadillac with a chrome semi-automatic pistol in his hand. The witnesses approached the Cadillac and found Knox in the front seat of the vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. HPD officers and HFD paramedics arrived and pronounced Knox dead.
The suspect is only described as a light-skinned black or Hispanic male, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He was wearing a black long sleeved pullover shirt, black baseball shorts, black and red Michael Jordan athletic shoes and a black baseball cap.
