March 22, 2007 -- Charges are pending against a suspect arrested for an aggravated assault of a police officer at 2800 Winbern about 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday (March 21).

The suspect, Juanita D. McCoy (b/f, DOB: 2-20-87), is facing charges of bodily injury of a public servant.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants T. Huynh and M. Dillingham reported:

Undercover HPD Narcotics Division officers were conducting an operation in the 3800 block of Delano. They attempted to arrest a male suspect and he fled on foot. The officers provided the suspect’s description over the police radio. Officer M. M. Walker, a five-year veteran from the South Central Patrol Division, arrived in the area and observed a male matching the description provided over the police radio. The male suspect was getting into a green Nissan vehicle driven by McCoy. McCoy was ordered to stop the car and she refused. McCoy put her car in reverse and backed away in a reckless manner, striking unoccupied, parked vehicles along the street. The Nissan came to a stop when it struck a fence at Blackshear Elementary School and got stuck in the grass. Officer Walker continued giving verbal commands for McCoy to stop and reached in the Nissan through the driver’s window in an attempt to turn the engine off. McCoy shifted gear and put her car in drive, running over Officer Walker’s foot. Officer Walker was knocked off balance, and because of McCoy’s erratic behavior and continuous refusal to obey verbal commands, Officer Walker feared for his life. He pulled his duty weapon and fired at the driver’s door of the Nissan. McCoy was not struck. She was arrested at the scene while the male suspect fled on foot.
