Incident at 6345 Windswept Lane #G
March 12, 2007 -- Houston police
are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 6345 Windswept
Lane #G on March 11, 2007 about 1:30 a.m.
The victim is identified as Bernardo Mondragon,
20. He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported
to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Brooks and
Officer M. Waters reported:
A licensed uniformed-armed security guard was
working at the Taqueria Turitzio when Mondragon showed up intoxicated.
Mondragon has threatened the armed security guard with a gun in
the past. On this occasion he was told by the security guard and
several witnesses to leave the premises, but he ignored the commands
and instead he began assaulting the security guard. Mondragon
also assaulted his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot when she tried
to intervene. He then attempted to take the guard’s duty
weapon and the security guard, fearing for his life, fired his
weapon one time striking Mondragon in the chest. Mondragon’s
companion at the scene sped away in Mondragon’s silver Mustang.
The case will be referred to a Harris County
grand jury.
