Hug A Bear Campaign 2007
March 9, 2007 -- On March 7,
2007 KSBJ-FM (89.3) and YMCA officials presented the Houston
Police Department with approximately nine thousand teddy bears
collected to aid traumatized children.
The community’s support was overwhelming
last year. “Over 10,000 stuffed-animals were collected at
our YMCAs and we were proud to have made an impact,” said
YMCA CEO and President Clark Baker. “This will help members
of our law enforcement as they rescue our youth from the unfortunate
situations that occur everyday in our city.”
The teddy bears collected will be distributed
to local police and fire departments so officers can carry them
in their patrol units, fire engines and ambulances. Officers can
rely on these items to comfort children who have suffered a traumatic
experience or crisis situation. Some of these toys will also be
given to Juvenile Sex Crimes Unit investigators so that they can
bring comfort to their young victims. Additional bears from the
Fort Bend area will be delivered in early April.
