Incident at 7602 Claiborne

January 4, 2007 -- Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 7602 Claiborne about 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday (January 3).

The suspect, Michael Dwayne Bedford (b/m, DOB 1-27-55) faces possible murder charges. The victim, Otis Anthony Taylor, 41, of 4590 Beechnut #207, suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso and died at the scene. The suspect and victim are half brothers.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants L.A. Flores and O. Belmarez reported:

HPD officers responded to a shooting call at 7602 Claiborne and found the victim deceased in the living room and the suspect still at the location. Taylor and Bedford were arguing about the care and health of their father when Taylor retrieved his father's shotgun from a bedroom. After being asked by both Taylor and his father to leave, Bedford refused. The father asked Taylor to put the shotgun away, which he did. When Taylor returned to the living room, unarmed, Bedford shot him with a shotgun he had hidden on his body.
