HPD Mobility Incident Management Division Sergeant
M.W. Bearden and Officer R. Kessler reported:
According to witnesses, the driver of a 1980
Buick was traveling only 20 miles per hour in the southbound lanes
on the East Loop when a 2001 Honda, also traveling south near
the posted speed of 55 mph, struck the rear of the slow moving
Buick. The Buick burst into flames immediately upon impact and
the fire spread through the vehicle, killing the driver and passenger.
The driver of the Honda was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital
with non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol does not appear to
be a factor in the accident.
The investigation is continuing.
