Incident at 3500 Leeland

December 11, 2007 - Houston police officers arrested a Houston police cadet at 3500 Leeland about 2:45 a.m. on Monday (Dec. 10).

The suspect, Rene Gallardo Fuentes (H/m, DOB: 2/20/74), is charged with possession of a controlled substance in the 180th State District Court. Fuentes was in Cadet Class 193 at the time of his arrest.

HPD patrol officers assigned to South Central Division were patrolling in an area known for high drug activity and observed a black Ford Explorer commit various traffic violations on Scott and Jefferson streets. Officers followed the Explorer and observed an unknown male running from the vehicle as Fuentes drove away. Fuentes continued and committed another traffic violation before officers stopped him at 3500 Leeland.

As officers approached the vehicle, they observed Fuentes moving around inside the vehicle and saw his eyes were bloodshot. Officers continued their investigation and observed evidence of narcotics in the vehicle. Narcotics found inside the vehicle were field tested and returned with a positive test result as cocaine.

The investigation is continuing.
