Female Suspect Arrested for Scamming Would be Job Applicants August 31, 2007 - The Harris County District Attorney’s office, with assistance from the Houston Police Burglary and Theft Division, has arrested and charged a City of Houston employee with felony theft after the female employee scammed money from more than 20 job applicants to the City’s Public Works and Engineering Department. Cheryl Lynette Jackson (b/f, DOB 12-20-67) is charged with felony theft in the 209th State District Court. She was arrested on Wednesday (Aug. 29) without incident. Investigators in the D.A.’s office and the HPD Burglary and Theft Division worked together after learning of the scam. While working for the city, suspect Jackson contacted at least 22 individuals interested in joining the city and told them she could get them a job if they would pay her $547 in cash for a computer training class. After receiving complaints, investigators contacted the PW&E department and its officials said there was no such program offered to applicants. Investigators believe there might be other persons victimized by Jackson. Anyone who believes he or she has been scammed by Cheryl Jackson is encouraged to contact the District Attorney's Office Public Integrity Division at 713-755-8330 or the HPD Burglary and Theft Division at 713-308-0900. |
