Incident at 7373 North Wayside August 15, 2007 - incident at 7373 North Wayside about 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 14). A female suspect, Brittnee S. King (b/f, DOB 8-14-89), who was wounded in the hand by an HPD officer, is charged with felony evading in the 232nd State District Court. The other suspect, Floydrick L. Washington (b/m, DOB 5-22-88), was arrested on an outstanding warrant for aggravated robbery in the 176th State District Court. Investigators said Washington is under investigation in several robbery cases in Houston and for possession of counterfeit $100 bills. More charges are pending against him. The officer who discharged his weapon at King, Officer Patrick Carraway, was not injured. Officer Carraway was sworn in as an officer in April 2007 and is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Mosqueda and Officer L. Benavidez reported: HPD patrol officers saw a red Oldsmobile at the intersection of Tidwell at Sherbourne Streets and noticed the right front passenger (Washington) open his door and throw trash out of the vehicle. The officers decided to initiate a traffic stop and turned on their emergency equipment to stop the vehicle. King, who was driving the vehicle, refused to stop, attempted to get away and turned into an apartment complex at 7373 North Wayside. Before the car came to a stop, Washington opened his car door and ran into the apartment complex. An officer pursued the suspect and managed to apprehend him without incident. King was given verbal commands to show her hands and to stop moving. She refused and tried to open the left front passenger door. At that time, Officer Carraway saw an unknown type of object in her hand and felt his life was in danger. Officer Carraway then discharged his weapon one time, striking King in the left hand. King eventually pulled her hands out, complied with officers’ orders and was placed under arrest. Paramedics were called and King was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she remains in stable condition. As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
