Update on Incident at 2400 South Voss August 15, 2007 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in the shooting of an on-duty Houston Police officer at 2400 South Voss about 4:35 a.m. on Sunday (August 12). Jeremy Earl Sanchez-Mueller (w/m, DOB: 6-6-82), faces charges of aggravated assault of a peace officer. HPD Officer Kwami Ahiabor, sworn in as an officer in November 2006 and assigned to the Southwest Patrol Division, suffered a contusion from the bullet that struck his bulletproof vest. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B.E. Roberts and Officers A.D. Brown and J. Sosa reported: Officer Ahiabor arrived at 2400 South Voss and noticed a white Honda Civic driving suspiciously in the area. He then observed the driver of the vehicle get out of the car and attempt to break into a separate vehicle using what he thought was a slim jim. Officer Ahiabor, who was in his full HPD uniform, announced his presence and attempted to take the suspect into custody. The suspect fled on foot, hid behind several vehicles, produced a pistol and then shot at the officer, striking him in the chest area protected by his bulletproof vest. Officer Ahiabor returned fire, however, the suspect escaped. Further investigation by homicide investigators developed Sanchez-Mueller as a suspect and he was arrested on Tuesday (August 14) without incident. As is customary in officer-involved shootings in the city limits, the incident is under investigation by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney’s office.
