Update on Incident at 3510 Chenevert

October 27, 2006 -- Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 7000 block of the Eastex Freeway (Highway 59 North) near Crosstimbers about 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday (Oct. 25).

The suspect, identified as Robert Allen Hawk (w/m, DOB 9-8-59), has been charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 338th State District Court. The identity of the female victim is being withheld pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office.

Vega reported:

The suspect was driving a pickup truck south on the main lanes of the Eastex Freeway when his vehicle rear-ended a small car traveling in the same direction. The female victim was in the back seat of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other persons in the car suffered unknown injuries and were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

The suspect left the scene, but was found and arrested a short time later by an HPD officer several miles from the scene.
